If you’re ready to lose weight, forget the fad diets. While many people do see some initial success with many of the fad diets that come and go, the long-term effects of these diet plans is often harmful to your efforts to lose those extra pounds. After your initial weight loss, chances are that you will simply gain back the pounds, making you feel even worse than before.
One of the main reasons that these fad diets don’t work for any length of time is that they are not sustainable. You might be able to severely restrict calories for a week, two weeks or even a month or more; however, the time is going to come when you’ll go back to your regular way of eating, and you’ve done nothing to change or modify your old habits. Of course, those old habits are the ones that caused you to gain weight in the first place.
Another type of fad diet that might be disguised as a regular eating plan, but that can be just as detrimental to your efforts to lose weight are those that limit certain categories of foods. An eating plan that calls for high protein, no carbs or some other very restrictive type of eating is another example of a diet that is just not realistic over the long-haul.
When you want to get rid of excess fat, the best way to go about it is to modify your habits. This means understanding what is making you gain weight and making lifelong changes to turn around those bad habits. Maybe you are indulging in too many high calorie snacks or perhaps your sweet tooth is a little out of control; these things can be modified without going to extremes. Add in an overall exercise program and you’re on your way to lifelong fitness.
