Mexican Soccer

"I have the chance to do for a living what I like the most in life, and that's playing football. I can make people happy and enjoy myself
at the same time." -
Hugo Sanchez

Mexico Flag

Alongside France, Italy and Germany, Mexican soccer is one of the few that managed the performance of hosting not one, but two World Cups and at an even more impressive fact is that they organized them in a short time span, with one being held in Mexico in 1970 and the other in 1986.

This pretty much says all about the commitmen to soccer in Mexico and the passion this country has for the game (they put passion in everything they do, look on their wonderful food in example…)

This particular characteristic, of putting passion into everything also shows in what regards Mexican soccer. Ok, they're not the most successful of countries when it comes to international or club trophies, but Mexico soccer has long been a good stream of successful players. This section will hand you a few details about several aspects of Mexican soccer.

Before reading those respective articles, you should check out the previews below, to get a sip of what the bottle holds.

Mexico National Soccer Team
When talking about soccer in Mexico, you're almost bound to talk about their national team, since the Mexican clubs' performances were often shadowed by those obtained by the national squad.

Even though these performances are not exactly outstanding (having reached the Quarter Final stages twice, in the World Cups that Mexico hosted), they are bound to improve nowadays, as Mexico's soccer managed to crop up another strong team, starring FC Barcelona's defender Rafael Marquez.

In addition, the Mexico national soccer team is bound to get an infusion of fresh, talented blood, when the components of the 2005 World Cup winning Under 17 team will earn some experience.Click here to read more...

History of Soccer in Mexico
A century ago, when soccer was already being played for a long time in Europe and even in some South American countries, it barely started to grow roots in Mexico.

By 1923 Mexico already had a national team and a professional championship, so you can see that it expanded quite fast throughout the country and with the Mexican national soccer team participating in the first World Cup in 1930, the game's popularity reached all time heights.

Two major references in the history of Soccer in mexico are undoubtedly the World Cups they hosted in 1970 and 1986, which also coincided to the best performances obtained by their national team, namely reaching the quarter-final stage.Click here to read more...

Famous Mexican Soccer Players
Admittedly, Mexican football heroes are not as important for the international stage as say, Brazilian or Argentinean ones. This is mostly due to the fact that Mexico were always tough competition, but never really managed to get over their underdog condition and have good runs in the final stages of the World Cups they played in.

Despite this fact, there are several Mexican players that are worth talking about, such as Antonio Carbajal, the first player ever to play in 5 (yes, five!) World Cups, Luis Hernandez who is widely considered one of the most important Mexican players of the last decade, or Rafa Marquez, the captain of today's Mexican national soccer team and one of the best defenders in the World.Click here to read more...
