Omar Bravo Biography

Omar
Bravo Biography – Introduction
Over the past 3 decades, Mexican soccer players that shone in the
national league were quick to follow their dream to play in Europe.
Some of them made it into the top flight of soccer, Hugo
Sanchez,
Rafael Marquez or Giovani Dos Santos for example, whereas a lot
didn't and remained complete strangers, or came back to their
home country after a couple of years spent as subs.
It's a risky business and no one can guarantee your success
in European soccer. Bravo is one of the few players in the Mexican
league that decided to remain loyal to the club that gave him the
opportunity to become a professional soccer player, Chivas de
Guadalajara.

Born in Los Mochis, a town in the North Western part of Mexico, Omar
Bravo got his real contact with Soccer when he was 5 years old and
Mexico hosted the 1986 World Cup. The Mexican
national team made a
great World Cup then, managing to equal their 1970 performance of going
through to the quarter finals and soccer started becoming very popular
amongst children in Mexico.
Omar Bravo Tordecillas was no different and he combined his passion for
soccer with another sport he loved, boxing. He was an amateur boxer for
a while and many believe that many of his qualities as a soccer player
derive from the fact that he boxed in his youth.
The player's combative style, agility and stamina prove them
right. It's these qualities, combined with an outstanding
ability to control the ball on the ground that brought Bravo in
the attention of the senior squad of Chivas de Guadalajara, the club he
started playing soccer for as a young boy.

Chivas
de Guadalajara
Although he took his time to debut as a professional soccer player,
Omar Bravo made an immediate impact and didn't miss the
chance he was given in 2001, as he got called to Chivas'
senior squad for his first match, at age 21. He was taken to the team
several times before, but never got the chance to play as he was just a
backup sub.
By 2002, in his second season with Chivas
de Guadalajara, Bravo
had won a place in the first team, starting in 15 games during the
Apertura, scoring 6 goals. This consolidated his position and has
become indispensable ever since.
Although he's a striker and he has quite a good goal average
ratio, Bravo is not the type of attacker you would
call a scoring machine. He's not an Inzaghi, Raul or Wayne
Rooney type of player.

Bravo's strength consists of his teamwork and his goal
average ratio is surpasses by his assist ratio. If goals would be
counted like they are in hockey, with two assists equaling 1 goal, Omar
Bravo would definitely be one of the top strikers in the Americas,
stats-wise.
Ever since they gave a playing chance to Omar Bravo, Chivas rose to
become one of the strengths of the Mexican Primera Division. Their
biggest performance so far, with Bravo in their ranks, is winning the
2006 Mexican Championship Apertura.
Although he's just 27, Bravo is already a legendary
soccer player for Chivas de Guadalajara and he's currently
the club's third best scorer in history.
Still, Mexican fans (and Chivas fans especially) believe
there's more to come from the striker and they're
hoping he will be in one of his better forms once Mexico debut in the 2010 World Cup
in South Africa.
